Get Involved
Your gift fuels Operation Together, our food recovery program, community outreach, advocacy of inclusive policies to address the root causes of food insecurity and climate change. Give today in any way you can (funding, time, and/or talent), and help build a food system rooted in justice, dignity, and collective action.

Financial Gifts
Financial gifts power the work that keeps our community nourished and reduces wasted food. Monetary support gives us the flexibility to operate vital programs, create jobs, and respond to community needs in real time. Your one-time or monthly donation helps us plan ahead and stay steady alongside the neighbors we serve.
Food Shift welcomes many forms of financial support, from secure online contributions to legacy giving. Each gift strengthens our shared capacity to build a just and sustainable future.

Food Donations
Food Shift accepts food from businesses only (such as wholesalers, retailers, farms, and food service providers). We will then distribute the donated food to nourish our neighbors through our partners. We adhere to very specific food donation guidelines according to standard practices that protect the donors and the beneficiaries of the donated food.
Unlike some food banks, Food Shift can accept food past its expiration date (except infant formula). Most date labels reflect quality, not safety. Food Shift can also accept bulk foods.
If you have prepared food to donate, please consider our partner CityTeam.
The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act (1996) protects businesses and organizations that donate food in good faith. It shields donors from civil and criminal liability (except in cases of gross negligence or intentional misconduct) and standardizes protections nationwide. This law encourages safe, responsible food donation.
Food Shift’s work spans workforce development, food recovery, food production, fundraising, communications, and more. We value equity and inclusion in our hiring, workplace culture, and community relationships. We see ourselves as a teaching-learning institution, providing opportunities to share intergenerationally, socio-economically, offering our team members, paid or unpaid, a unique experience that can leave a body of work behind for the community and for themselves.
